As part of the Ivory Week 2024, club members embarked on a boat cruise, courtesy of the Lagos State Ferry Service (LAGFERRY) on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
The cruise began at the Falomo Jetty in Ikoyi and ended at the Mile 2 headquarters of the agency.
The President of the club, Ivorian Tunde Thani, and members of Ivory League present expressed their satisfaction with the state of the facility. They craved adequate maintenance to sustain the good project of Lagos State. Some members further attested that the facility and the structure in place can favorably compete with the ones available in other developed countries.
The cruise took a gradational approach as the tour guide took time to explain each spot and important location on the waterway before the final speed off. The Otedola/Dangote water travel station, Marina Creek, and Liverpool waterside were among the locations sighted. Others were activities of dredgers and fish markets on waterways along our route.
Eventually, we arrived at our destination after about thirty-five minutes. Upon the instruction of the Cruise Operation Manager, our team disembarked gradually from the engine boat and was ushered to the LAGFERRY Agency Operations Office Headquarters in Mile 2 where the management team of the agency was eagerly waiting for us. The Team headed by Mr. Akeem Odusina, the Public Relations Officer of the agency received and hosted our team in one of the offices within the agency.
Mr. Akeem Odusina acting on behalf of the Managing Director who had another pressing assignment introduced the management team of LAGFERRY Agency and Ivory League members present were introduced by the Vice President, Ivorian Abolade Opaleye on behalf of the President, who had earlier left for another pressing engagement.
Mr. Odusina explained the rationale behind the establishment of LAGFERRY which includes the government’s desire to decongest Lagos roads and generate revenue through the water economy. He also referenced how the Lagos State Government has thrown its weight behind the agency by ensuring its efficiency as well as building capacity to meet the water travel needs of Lagosians. He explained all the routes and water stations the system covers which include Ipakodo/Ebute Ero, Falomo/Mile 2, Marine Road, Apapa, Liverpool, Ilaje/Barriga and more. He stressed the role of his agency in maintaining absolute safety of all water travellers and often promotes same as pivotal element of their operations.
